Hi all, My daughter was using an old Chinon CP-5 for her first photography class and she came to me last evening saying something was wrong with the winding mechanism. When I move the winding lever it seems to catch slightly and then just gives way and rotates all the way around until it bumps agains the multiple-exposure latch. I think the mechanism is stripped. I am very mechanically inclined but I don't have a service namual for it. Does anyone have one in pdf fromat that could be emailed to me? Also, any other advice on working on this camera? Is it worth repairing?
So it appears that the winding lever has gotten out of "allignment" with the shutter cocking mechanism. I think my daughter may have forced the lever when the camera was not fully cocked and moved it past where it was supposed to be. I was able to get it working for a little bit and I had to be very careful with it but it worked. I tried my automatic winder on it and that seemed to put it back out of allingment. Basically it seems the lever does not completley cock the shutter and then it just moves freely instead of returning the mechanism to the starting state.
I was able to get the bottom cover off easily and I applied a tiny bit of Tri-Flo to loosen things up and it moves more freely but the lever still doesn't advance the mechanism enough.
I have been able to get the winding lever and rewind lever off but I cannot figure out how to get the shutter release button/program setting dial and the ISO setting dial off. Any tips on this?
Really how much time should I spend on this? I see several Chinon cameras on Ebay but not any CP-5s.
