I acquired a Sears 500mx with all the trimmings from a lady who was cleaning out one of her closets. It seems to be a durable camera. I would like to get it going again so I need to get it fixed. The film advance and shutter button are stuck and the meter is dead. I don't care so much about the meter, I use a Gossen Pilot anyway. Does anyone know who repairs this type of camera for a reasonable amount ? I e-mailed Garry Airpetov of Garry's Camera Repair but he doesn't repair this model...

It could be made by Mamiya or by Ricoh.

If it has a cloth shutter it's probably a Mamiya. If it has metal bladed shutter, it's probably a Ricoh. They are totally different designs.

In either case, you can likely buy a tested, working example at the auction site for $25 to $50; a lot less than a repair would probably cost.

Thank You for the heads up.... It is actually a Ricoh SLX 500.

I understand what you are saying about getting one from the internet. The way I look at it is, if I get it repaired/serviced myself, I know what I have... The internet is more of a gamble. From my experience, I've lost more than I have gained...
