hi there,

I"m french, so sorry for my poor english !
I buy a bolsey b22 o ebay cause I love american camera.
But the shutter is not working. When I press the "double exposure" button, and I release the shutter, nothing happens. The shutter is always open.
Do you think I can fix it ? Is it difficult to open this camera ?

best regards from france

Always the fix is to flood with cigarette lighter fluid or electronics contact cleaner.

Do NOT use wd 40,it is death to any shutter.Cigarette lighter fuel poured in any opening around the shutter should close up the blades.Unscrew the front or rear lens element if you can to help the fuel evaporate.

NO, No, no. Stop. Never WD-40.

I remove lens and spray sideways into the shutter.

thank you for your advice.
first, I will try to remove the lenses unscrewing the 2 front screw), then I will pour in any mechanical system lighter fuelwith a
syringe .
But i don't understand why the shutter is blocked in open position, usually, when a camera is unused, the shutter is close, and you can't re-open it ?

the springs that close the blades are weaker than the springs that open them. so, sometimes, when a shutter is dirty, there is enough power to open the blades but not enough to close them again.

Hi,

I have remeved the lens and poured lighter fluid in the shutter, it closed ! I thought I win. But when the fuel evaporated, the problem is the same, the shutter opens, but the spring that closes it is not enough power... I think I have to lubrificate it. What chemical to use (electronic contact cleaner ?? sewing machine lubrification fluid ?)

thx your your advices

Just apply lighter fluid a second time. Probably not all dirt is removed.
You might even soak the whole shutter in lighter fluid for day or two.

Ciao,

Dirk

Sometimes it may take several applications of the lighter fluid to get rid of all the accumulated gunk. And for lubrication, just mini drops of something like watch oil on the blade pins will do. Depending on what shutter it is in the first place. Some of them are designed to run dry, so you may want to research that further.
