I was using my Pentax Spotmatic earlier today, and was about to take another picture, focused, and the shutter button just wasn't pressing down, like it was jammed. I then tried to take out the film and proceeded to rewind it, but that was jammed too. it moves a little bit to rewind, but stops a second later, and the film is almost done anyways. so what can I do, without opening the back and potentially damaging the film thats already there. Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone before?

Sarah, if you don't have a changing bag, you can use a heavy winter coat.

Go into the darkest room you have.

Put the coat on a surface such as a bureau or your lap with the buttons down.

Put the camera, a black film can, and a pair of scissors inside the coat. Turn the head and tail under to close them off to the light.

Turn the lights out.

Put your arms into the arms of the coat, and open the camera. You should be able to remove the film cannister, and then pull the film off the take-up spool. Rewind the film into the cannister.

If the film will not come off the take-up spool by pulling (say the spool will not turn for some reason), use the scissors to cut the film at the cannister. Then work it off the spool, placing it in the black film can after you are done.

You can now turn on the lights, and take your film to the lab (or chemist/pharmacy) for developement, unless you do your own.

Good Luck!

PF

It won't rewind after pressing the button on the bottom of the camera? That generally releases the shutter winding mechanisms.

The changing bag is the way to go or as the post above... just do it in a dark closet with all the lights out n a towel at the bottom of the door to seal any light ocming under the door.
