I've recently acquired a Ricoh 800 EES (fixed lens rangefinder), and upon testing the film I noticed that the film advance lever gets stuck after the first shot. My hunch is that it has to do with the gears, so I've gone to remove the top casing, but- here's the problem- I can't. After removing everything I should've (2 body screws, the screw from the filma advance, and the screw and pin from the rewind) only the side with the film advance shifts, and the other side with the rewind barely budges.

Any ideas?

Outside chance there's a threaded collar around the area the rewind post goes through. Some cameras have them and they're not always easy to see.
