Hi, I have a really nice 124g that I haven't used in a while. Took it out in the sunshine and discovered this "problem"(?). When I look into the viewfinder, there is a slight aberration of the image offset just above the subject itself.

For example, I focused on the edge of the kitchen counter and there was an aberration of the horizontal counter edge just above the counter edge itself. I've never opened the top of the camera, but my first guess is that the mirror is a thin piece of glass with a reflective surface on the underside of the glass - what I'm seeing is a reflection off of the glass surface, no off of the reflective surface itself. Anyway, hopefully that makes sense.

Is this normal? Am I just being picky?

Thanks!

The original mirror was front-surface silvered, but it could have been replaced. You can get a good look at it by removing the hood, and you can get a pretty decent look just peeking in through the viewing lens. You might see something to explain the odd behavior.

All mirrors used in cameras are first surface mirrors. If you have never had this problem before then, obviously, something has changed. A dirty mirror is not going to reflect two images.

The only reason you would be getting a double image is if you have two "lenses" focusing on the screen (like in a rangefinder). Since none of that is possible under normal circumstances, theory 1 is a cracked, chipped, or separated viewing lens. Theory two is a shifted bright screen under the ground glass. Theory 1 sounds more likely to me.

Thanks to all for the replies. The mirror was in backwards/upside down - i.e., the silvered side was towards the back. Flipped it over and all is well. Thanks again.
