I'm a beginner in 35mm photography. The film advance lever on my used Pentax will only advance a short ways before it stops solidly in its path. I've tried pressing the shutter button and changing the battery. Obviously it won't work without this lever. Thanks so much for your help. |

An ME Super should wind on and fire without batteries. It sounds like a mechanical jam. It's often possible to free these up by removing the bottom plate (not difficult, just three screws)and gently moving the various levers, gears etc and carefully applying a little lubrication where appropriate. |

IIRC, the ME super has 2 mech speeds: B &1/125 for flash syc. (actually more like 1/100th). THe rest are battery dependent. Check the rewind button on the bottom. |

On a jammed ME or ME Super, the first thing to check is the wind lever click spring. The wind lever should click in place against the body. If it does not, then the click spring is broken and it's very likely that part of the broken spring is jammed in the wind mechanism. Whenever a jammed ME came into the shop with a wind lever that did not "click" against the body in the standby position, the problem was always caused by a broken click spring. Top cover must be removed to replace the spring and possibly bottom cover if spring residue has migrated downward.
