I bought this camera at a yard sale and it seems to be dead. I dont have a battery for it and it looks like i am going to need to order one(not one in town). The aperture in the lens does not move and the shutter moves but moves at the same speed on every setting, at the same time does not open to let light through. Does this camera require a battery for both functions?

Battery is required for the shutter. This may also mean the auto stop down mechanism in the body requires the battery too.

There's a battery check button on the baseplate and a manual at http://www.butkus.org/chinon/praktica/praktica_ee2/praktica_ee2.htm

There is one shutter speed at which it should work in the mechanical mode. Please try 1/125second [most likely], or 1/90sec or 1/60sec. The Praktica L-series shutter moves at a constant speed of 1/125 second. That is the speed at which the flash is also synchronized. The exposure slit ought to be mechanical at that speed. For all other speeds it will need a battery. Best, sp
