A complete newby question, sorry :-)

I want to repaint old canon lens (ef 28-80 2.8, all metal). What kind of paint would you recommend?

Would it be possible to have the modern lens look (sort of ribbed paint, like on the new 24-70mm ii)? Also, since the lens is old, I am not sure if all dust seals are in perfect condition- could paint it using brush?

Not possible to paint the lens without disassembly. The best way is to spray paint. Second best is dabbing with a sponge. Automobile paint is best. If you wanr "ribbed" effect, first paint with enamel, then 2nd coat with lacquer.
