G'day ,
I looked on eBay to purchase replacement shutter blades for a NikonFM2 - all I find is exactly that available but I wondered if the shutter frame for a FM2 and a FM2n required different models of Shutter blades ?
The company selling Shutter blades couldn't tell me which model of FM2 the item he was selling was for and I wondered if it was possible (ignoring the different generations of blades i.e. Titanium Mk1 & Mk2 and ultimately the Aluminium version ) that one fits all?
I do appreciate that springs have been added ( FM2n ) corners of the shutter frame have been trimed and rivets and arms improved but what I'm hoping is that it's possible that one "replacement Shutter" blade fits all ?
Thank you !

I'm afraid you're going to have some risk. When I bought a replacement blade for my FM2N from Nikon, I had to give them the camera serial number to get the correct blade. Some have smooth blades, some have the quilted pattern, and there may have been other changes along the way as well. I don't know if you can mix and match or not. And this is all within the FM2N, the original FM2 shutter was a bit different: I believe its limitation to 1/200 for sync was related to the higher mass of its shutter blades. Again, I don't know if it would be possible to use an FM2N blade in an FM2; I would not swap going the other direction even if the parts fit, because of the higher blade velocity in the 2N.

The original FM2 blade is different than the FM2n blade so it can not be interchanged. In the later FM2n, the smooth aluminum blades can be interchanged with the titanium honeycomb style blades. There were three styles of blades on the FM2: Original FM2 honeycomb style, FM2n honeycomb style, and FM2n smooth aluminum.

The FM2n, FE2, and FA all use the same blade sets.

Thank you for your advise Rick and Brcamera - I have the non "n" FM2 with the sync. speed of X200 so it looks like I'll have to take some risk here and purchase what's available on ebay ,namely Part FM2 ( not FM2n )at least they will not have the stress of 250X but I hope they fit.
I'll let the forum know the outcome of my adventure !
THank you !

Newworld,
I looked on ebay and only noticed one seller in San Diego selling the blades so I assume this is where you are getting the parts? If so, the blades shown in the photo are for the older FM2 so they should be fine...

Brcamera,
Thanks I noticed that they had the old "1st Generation Honeycomb pattern " but I asked the seller if they were definitely for the FM2 but he didn't know - that's why I posed the question on the forum .
I noticed he also sold Aluminium FM2 shutters - perhaps the description FM2 is incorrect-- as you and I know the FM2 never came out with Aluminium blades ?
Thanks for your help - hopefully I'll become a "FM2 / FM2n replacement shutter blades" expert in the process !
MANY THANKS !
