Since the shutter on an ETR-series camera is electronically controlled by the camera, I'm wondering if the lens's shutter can somehow get out of calibration? I've got a line on a clean ETR lens that I could use, but the current owner claims the shutter speeds vary and it needs calibration. He says that his other lenses don't do this. So, I guess I'm wondering, if this is possible, what is the likely cause? Probably a mechanical and not an electronic issue unless contacts are dirty/corroded perhaps? And if it is mechanical, and the iris blades don't show an oily residue, what would be a likely culprit? Does a electronic leaf shutter use magnets? Or maybe it isn't the lens at all? I haven't had a chance to try it with my ETR-Si yet.

Each shutter has its own magnet and that can be the cause of erratic exposure. Very likely also is the trigger switch or the A/T switch in the shutter assembly-in my experience, these switches are usually the culprit. Of course, there are also other mechanical bits such as the blades, blade operating ring, etc, but most likely the issue is the switches. |

Thanks for the feedback. So is this A/T switch something that can be adjusted or cleaned or? Or does it have to be replaced? |

The A/T switch can be cleaned- its visible once you remove the lens elements as it is not actually inside the shutter assembly. Of course, the magnet and trigger switch are inside the shutter. |

There is a repair manual for these lenses on the web somewhere. Forgot exactly where it is. I will find it again if you can't find it. |
