I had been posting in a wrong topic so here is the topic anew.
Background: A faulty British Agilux Agiflex with a steel wire drive from around 1946. Seemed to wind film OK but no shutter firing. It is like a Pentacon 6 but based on the German Relex Korelle.
I started to carefully dismantle and save the parts and their screws for eventual rebuild.

which was after I discovered that the leatherette running along the back top behind the pop-up viewer covered two screws. Removing them allowed me to prise up the top to see that three more screws were hidden under leatherette on the side of the shutter speed dial. Now I can see how the brass capstan is turned by the steel wire - still intact, but the design is shit since it seems too easy for the wire to come off the brass pulley. Thats what happened here I think.
The top spindle of the speed setting meshes with a set of gears below and there are steel keyways which when turned correctly begin to make the f.p. blind (left one when looking out through the lens) begin to reappear from its hiding place.
The right side blind does not appear at all.
However now the gears wont turn at all (jammed) using just my fingers to turn the shaft. I am making sure not to force anything, only fingers to test gears.
Also the number of gears on the left side film advance seems too complex to just do that, maybe they tension the right side blind to pull it over to the film advance side. So left spring to pull right blind, right spring to pull left blind ???
But the big question is where to go now?
At this point I have no idea how or what hides the blind compartments and I fear taking down any more gears until I have an understanding of what relationship they have. If you look at the latest link in this post I have added notes to each picture to try to explain.
What would you do next at this point ?
Does any of the gearing and pawls look like any other camera?
I have never gone this deep before and was originally hoping to just flush the clockwork with lighter fuel but I got where I am and thats that. Frankly I am thinking of somehow adding a manual shutter wind to replace the steel wire which I have heard will always be an accident waiting to happen. Comments? |

Hi there,
The problem with the right hand blind not appearing is one i had with an E-Bay purchase.Not wanting to dismantle and possibly upset the dreaded wire,I just took off the shutter speed dial and poured lighter fuel down the side of the shaft.This freed up the curtain shaft and the curtain slowly unrolled rejoining its mate.
Regarding the frame counter arm,this is exactly the same as the reflex korelle on which I was unable to repair the dreaded wire.The arm locks the frame counter dial and the gear on the wind shaft,but I could not find what moves this arm over to release them.I did not dismantle any deeper as it seemed pointless if the wire could not be repaired. |
