I overhauled this camera earlier this year, and the first roll I put through it went pretty good. However, the next roll started to slip off the sprockets really bad after the fifth exposure. Today, I decided to do some adjusting on it, but came up a cropper.

There is a small cover plate that flips over to hold the film down on the sprocket wheel, and it is spring loaded to keep it closed. However, it starts to ride up after the fifth frame. So I took it out, and put more tension in the spring, hoping that would hold it down better. No such luck.

So, the next step was to put more spring tension into the pressure plate, and pressure plate frame. Still no joy in Mudville. The first five frames go smoothly, then it starts tearing up the film over the sprocket wheel.

Has anyone else had experience with this problem?

The problem might be in the take-up spool. It might be turning too much in relation to the sprocket gear.

Look at this excellent series of repair photos. The photos may not show it from the right angle, but that screw that adjusts the tension can be accessed through a tiny hole, so you might not have to dismantle the whole thing.

Thanks, Scott, I'll have a look at that (have to copy the entire link and paste into the browser).

Well wouldn't you know. I joined that group on Flickr a while back after I had overhauled the Karat, and never looked through their discussion board. Not many members in the group, and not very active either, but there was a set of photos that showed me what I needed to know to get on the right track.

On my camera, I couldn't see the setting screw for the spool clutch, and thought I might have had an "improved" version. But after a while I was able to determine that the film take-up spool will rotate around the shaft, and then I was able to see and adjust the setting screw.

Thanks again, Scott, for the heads up. I'm going to load it tomorrow with some Ilford FP4 Plus and see what comes out.

That was my first 'technical' posting on Flickr; with hindsight I suppose I should have started it as a new topic for more prominence ;-)
[Don't know what has happened with this forum, I had to re-register and revert to my original p/w ?!]

Johnnyh - ... not so very long ago, our admin, Kar Yan Mak, posted in "forum announcements": "any member who has registered within the last 3 months will need to re-register, unfortunately".
This, I hope, will help clarify the matter.

Thank you, that explains why I had to re-re-register, and revert password, even though my original registration was in 2009.

The hosting company switched the forum to another server without telling anyone, and most of the registrations were lost in the process.

And that was a great series of photos, Johnnyh. It definitely helped.
