I've just bought a lovely VPK, which I'm hoping will be fed when someone buys the kit to make 127 film, or at least shoot one of my last few rolls. However the viewfinder is filthy, and I will have to clean it or replace the mirror before I can try it out. Has anyone here done one ho can offer me advice, please?

Thanks!

Tell me more about the kit to make 127 film.

The finders on VPK are held on either by the little built in "clips" on the finder (if you have the Hawkeye one like mine) or screws. Just take off the top of the finder and replace the little mirror. If it is a polished metal mirror type then just clean it

... and if you can't clean a metal mirror, go to the camping goods section of Kmart or Walmart, get a steel camping mirror, and cut it up for a replacement.

Better yet, get any plastic Poleroid camera for a quarter at a garage sale and get the mirror out of it. (It may take big pliers and a hacksaw.)

Use a glass cutter and make a little front surface mirror to fit. It will make about 10. Very usefull on any 120 box camera rebuild also!

Thanks, guys, as it happens I was idly pondering the problem about twenty minutes after posting the above, and the top just popped off! It was indeed held on by two small clips, and the mirror cleaned up beautifully - it went from being unusable to as bright as anythig that size can be in a moment.

I use some glass mirror tiles I bought as mirror stock, but the metal ones are probably much safer to cut.

Finnegan, when I said "kit" I was talking about Fotokemika's equipment rather than a kit to make your own. Sorry! Still hoping for a resurection myself - can we get Lomography into 127 film?
