In auto this camera is aperture priority,so a good way to test if it's working ok is to set the aperture at f1.8 and speed at 1 sec.In manual the shutter should sound like 1 sec ---in OFF it shoud sound like 30th of sec ----in auto,[cover the lens with lens cap or hand],and the shutter should not close till the lens is uncovered. If in this test,in manual the shutter speed sounded like it did in the OFF position [like 30th],then the switch is not making a good contact in the manual position, and will need a clean. Odd,that Olympus made OFF 30th of sec.Apparently so you did'nt miss a picture. |

Thanks, did the test you suggested and at off shutter fired at 30th of second with or without hand over lens.on manual with shutter set at 1 shutter was faster than 30th of second with no hand over lens.with hand over lens shutter stayed opened as long as hand was over lens just as in auto mode. |

What I was trying to see was if in manual the speed was the same as in OFF.If they were the same ie. 30th,the camera in manual would be behaving as if it was tuned off. This could mean that in manual the switch was not making contact and needed cleaning. You say it was faster,so it could be something else. Are all the speeds in manual the same, even 1000th? |

no it reacts exactly as when in auto mode no matter where the shutter speed dial is set. |
