I've just fixed a Fed 3 which has been laying around in a box for a couple of years.Reason being,twice I re-glued the curtain tapes,and twice after re-assembling they came away again.
Here in the UK,you cannot get Pliobond and I have never found a satisfactory alternative,until now.So just a tip for UK tinkerers,try Glu&Fix,made by Bostik.I found it in the stationary dept in Tescos.I would not use it on anything you might want to remove again such as body leatherette coverings though! |

Shellac works fine, quite reversible with a bit of methanol or ethanol. |

Does'nt shellac dry hard? What I wanted was a flexible adhesive that sticks cloth to cloth,but leaves the material flexible,with no lump,which could make the curtain roll or unroll unevenly.
Not only does this adhesive stick cloth to cloth without making the material hard,it also sticks cloth to metal,metal to glass etc.This is more than I got with contact adhesives,which seem to need larger surface areas to have any strength.

You can use clear fingernail polish with excellent results.

You can get synthetic or Latex based adhesive in a hardware shop or a bicycle puncture repair shop. The adhesive is usually in a solvent like ether. Highly inflammable. So be careful, especially, if you are a smoker. It will be as good as Pliobond. The hardware people use this to stick laminates and veneers to plywood. |

Oh, if this is attaching the tapes to the metal bar at the end of the shutter, no glue is enough. You have to glue and sew them. |

I'm in the UK and I found I was able to buy Pliobond from the US via Ebay. It seems to be the recommended adhesive for this job and works well. |

We've always used Pliobond. It seems like we can't find it locally anymore.
DAP/Weldwood Contact Cement seems to be a good replacement if you can't find Pliobond.

You can buy Pliobond from Ebay USA, directly. Just go to the US Ebay site and type Pliobond. |
