After encountering two Pentax ZX-5Ns that showed a blinking low battery indicator despite having fresh batteries, I figured out that the problem is a poor connection between the inside of the battery compartment door and a contact at the side of the battery chamber. A piece of folded aluminum foil inserted at the contact point solves the problem.
