I just picked up a F3 body. Everything seemed to be working as I inspected it without a lens on it, but at home with a lens on it, the meter just shows the shutter speed and the - sign and only a quick look at the + sign sometimes. On the auto mode it just shows 8sec and the - sign. Does this sound like a do it yourself fix or does it need a trip to Nikon. |

You didn't mention if the shutter is operating. If the shutter hangs open and the meter shows 8 seconds on auto, then you most likely have a problem with the FRE (functional resistor) or the memory capacitor. For most, this is not a do it yourself fix. As for Nikon repair, the camera has probably been out of production for 25 years so my guess is that Nikon service is no longer available for this model. Any good independent shop should be able to straighten this out.. Bill |

The shutter seems to work fine on all speeds, the 8sec speed does seem a little longer though. |
