I just bought an XA and I am having a problem. When I press the shutter it opens and then 15-20 seconds later it closes. No matter what F stop it is set at. I guess it is getting stuck but when it is in flash mode, the shutter opens and closes how it should. How can I fix this? Can I fix this?

To me it looks like a problem with the meter. Maybe it's getting no light. When you open the slider does the small square window open? It opens rather late - only when the sliding door clicks fully in the open position.
I can post a pic of what I mean when it is not clear. Just let me know.

oops sorry - I'd better think first and type then. The little window is for the rangefinder. Sorry again. Nevertheless I think a meter issue is the most likely cause. The XA has two meters so even if the needle is indicating the right times the shutter works on the second meter and that can be faulty.

Ok, that makes sense. The needle does show the right speeds and reacts how it should to light. So where are both meters and how can I find out how to fix it?

I have not been inside my XA. I'm already happy if I can type electronics correctly ;-)
A soldering iron would be a lethal weapon in my hands - at least to any camera.
But you can find a service manual right here in this forum - just click "Repair manuals" on top of the page.

Does anyone else have any advice?

I have the same problem with my XA - it stays open for about ten seconds when fired - however in flash mode it also keeps the shutter open for ten seconds. I have read that the magnets in the shutter often need cleaning, but do not know how exactly to carry out the repair. Does someone have experience with it or could give a link to a website which explains it?

The magnets are clean in my XA. Does anyone know what else could be the reason for the malfuntion?
