I have a chance to get a OM 50mm f1.4 lens - a truly great lens - for cheap because it has sticky blades, aperture closes/opens very slowly.
Can I repair that?
( I have only one experience of opening a lens to clean it from it's fungus, a Takumar 50mm f1.4 ) |

The diaphragm blades are reached from the front - unscrew the ID ring, then the front lens cell, then the aperture ring will come off. The diaphragm blades will come out as individual pieces, clean them with lighter fluid on a cotton swab and reinstall. That may not be enough though: you may find oil all over, on the barrel where the blades sit, and on the linkage from the lens mount to the diaphragm. The latter has to be accessed from the rear by removing the mounting flange. Everything should be clean and dry to run correctly. |

I was to buy it cheap at an online auction, but I had to work when it ended and somebody paid more.. |

Sometimes the blades are not oily, the sluggishness is caused by oil in the actuating mechanism and rings easily accessible by removing the rear mount. Not that often, but sometimes. If you can see the oil on the blades when stopped down, then you must strip it to clean them. |
