I have a Pentax K-1000 I purchased in 1980. It has been a great camera. I am having a problem with the light meter. It "appears" to work but the reading is terribly inaccurate. Has anyone had the same problem? Found a fix? Thank you for replying.

Sorry if this is a dumb knee-jerk answer, but have you tried changing the battery? The Pentax meters are an unusual circuit, if the battery is dead they will read as if you had a correct exposure instead of dropping to the bottom.

The needle moves as if it is registering light but I did change the battery anyway. No help. Wish it were that easy.

I think that was the end of my list of quick fixes... from here on it requires disassembly

Check if the aperture follower (inside mirror cage) is working properly.
