Is Glenn Middleton still out there? If so then I just want to say thank you Glenn! I recently purchased a cosmetically clean A-1 of the bay, which I knew was coming to me with a mirror damper squeak (worse I've ever heard, very slow mirror movement). Got it for about $24 plus shipping so I figured it wasn't much of a risk. My only prior camera repair was a rebuild of an Argus C3 shutter trigger assembly back...oh must have been around 1975 or so. Anyhow, I found a post you wrote detailing the removal of the A1 top cover and it made the repair quite easy. I have a high degree of mechanical ability and probably would have just ripped into this thing anyhow but your instructions helped a great deal and allowed me to avoid possible problems. Thanks Glenn, I appreciate the help!

Ed,

Yes, still around. Glad you got your A-1 sorted, it is always nice to get a cosmetically clean example up and running. I have always had a soft spot for the A-1 as the body size is perfect for me, if only Canon had updated it with the metering system from the T90 instead of actually producing the house brick!
