I tried editing my earlier post about this Ricoh XR-P to make it more specific.

After changing the batteries, and pressing the shutter button, the mirror flipped up and the shutter opened, and never closed.

Any ideas on why / how to fix a shutter that is stuck open on this camera? The lights on the meter are working and I am not getting a low battery warning, the batteries are brand new so I don't think that is an issue.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It won't be worth it to even have a camera repair shop look at this since it will cost 5X more than these go on ebay to fix anything I am sure.

THANKS!

Most of the time these jam because a material used in the camera deteriorates and becomes like a crumbling art-gum eraser. Pieces of this stuff get lodged into the mech. and generally problem can be remedied under the bottom plate (you might be able to find it and remove same). Art @ flcamerarepair.com

Art's right; I had an XR-7 that got hung up due to a piece of old, hardened grease that was jamming a gear under the bottom plate.

Donnie, thank you! The material is actually a crumbling pad used as a stop or bumper internally. They always break up and jam the camera...sometimes making for an easy job for me over the years (sort of helps to ease the pain from working on those #@%*?&*)X#'s that took all day!!)
