My Pentax K1000 has the problem below: If the shutter speed selected to 1/60 sec and slower, when I trigger the shutter, the reflective mirror will flip and stuck. I need to de-cock and trigger again, probably the mirror will come down. If the shutter speed selected to higher speed, the refective mirror will flip and come down. What is the possible cause of the problem and how to fix it. Thanks.

This is a common problem and is caused by the second curtain not having enough momentum to reset the mirror latch. The shutter spindles will require cleaning and oiling. As a temporary fix you may be able to clean the shutter spindles if they are accessable under the bottom cover. To do it properly you will have to take off the front panel and perhaps the mirror box too. Quite a job. Tomosy's Book 1 covers the Spotmatic which is very similar to the K1000.

What kind of lubrication oil do you recommend? If there is alternative lube oil which is easy to get please recommend too.

Use a drop of lighter fluid to clean and remove old oil from the spindle bearings. Re-oil with a tiny drop of very light oil. 'Rem' oil seems to get the nod from the leading lights of the Forum.

The retard mechanism that holds back the 2nd curtain when set to slow shutter speeds may also require cleaning.

Do the absolute minimum, just clean and don't be tempted to make any adjustments. In the K-series the front panel comes off separately from the mirror box, but the screws holding the panel sit in brass spacer collars. These collars are set in the factory to provide the exact mount to film plane distance. When removing the panel screws be very careful not to disturb these collars.
