My old friend died this weekend. Haven't known him (her) since birth but we are old friends that go way back to when Ektachrome was only three.

Anyone know of a good Rollei hospital where triage can be performed? Then again it might be time to let it die and rest in peace on the shelf protected behind glass like Sleeping Beauty. Don't fret, it won't end up in a garage sale for $2 as long as I'm around.

The film advance cranks the film but the shutter does not cock. It's never had a CLA or been repaired before.

Suggestions? I guess I have to investigate value before I can determine repair investment.

Please give us a clue -- on what continent are you located. Perhaps narrowing it to a state, county, city/town/village can also help us locate someone nearby.

Anywhere in North America would be good. If the best is somewhere else I would consider it if the reputation stands close scrutiny. I haven't found a good one yet in the Dallas/Fort Worth big city. I have an F3 in a shop now that has been there all year and 3 calls for more money.

PS: I updated my profile so this question would not arise again!

Who have you trusted your F3 to? There are still a couple of decent camera shops in DFW, however some are more decent than others. Also, where in the city are you (North, South, East, West, Mid-Cities, etc)?

In California there are two that I would recommend:

Oceanside Camera. http://www.rolleirepairs.com/

Pro Camera Service. http://www.procamera.net/

Both have expertize in Rollei TLR; both are highly regarded.

p.s. Sorry about your F3. I sent mine to my local (Los Angeles) authorized Nikon shop and they kept it only 1.5 weeks for a complete overhaul. I seem to recall that my Rollei was with Pro Camera for a couple of weeks for a complete overhaul. I've heard Harry Flenor requires more time/patience.
