Howdy. Pulled apart a Contax mount Sonnar and think I want to take the aperture ring off. Got the grub screws out (tiny!) and it only spins down a few turns. Does it indeed spin off to the back of the lens? Is there a secret? Thanks.

Sorry. It's a postwar Opton 50mm F:2 I can spin it forward about 4 turns and it hangs up. The chromed bit the filter threads onto came off fine. It's soaking overnight - should I keep trying to get it to go forward? Thanks.

I have a sketch for the 50/2.0 Carl Zeiss (late postwar) that I can send you - I don't see the grub screws in the sketch though (I made it 16 years ago, so I can't rely on memory for help). Maybe it will help if you see it?

Rick, that would be great. It's identical to the example Mike takes apart at http://elekm.net/zeiss-ikon/repair/sonnar-clean.html Mine came apart nicely except for getting this ring off.

Thank you Rick for your help. I have it all apart and now feel most expert. With any luck I'll still feel that way in a few days when it's back together.
