Hi all,

I'm new here and need some help. I bought a box of twelve camera bodies and a Juplen m42 mount 35-155 mm lens. Got the box for $2, so I thought I would play with the cameras.

Most of the Yashica J-5's need rewind cranks.

Where could I find a place the I could get old rewind cranks?

I have other bodies that need cranks, but I'm starting on the Yashica's.

thanks for any direction provided.

I get mine from the cheesy little Yamashita cameras, better known as the Time-Life givaway cameras. Any crappy little 35 will have one. You can find lots of these around at thrift shops or moving sales.

So the screw threads are the same?

I figured I could also go to Home Depot with the camera, determine the thread size, and put a hex screw in, and add a knob. It only has to pull up to open the film door, and turn to rewind the film.

Thanks for the tip

Ha, ha. Well, I don't believe they sell screws that small at Home Depot. Usually, if the screw is missing you get it off any old junk camera. The rewind knobs on the junk cameras have the proper size screw, usually. Or you can always disassemble an old Sony Walkman. Those are loaded with tiny screws.

No, the screw threads are not all the same, they vary from one camera model to another. In my spare-rewind-knob bin (yes, God help me, I have one) I have 3, 3 1/2, 4, 4 1/2 and 5mm diameters, and one that looks like about 2 1/4.

So I'm guessing the way to get parts is acquire older cameras and part them out?

yyyyyyup.

you might find some useful parts at http://camerashop.in also, but it's kind of an arbitrary assortment.
