Just got hold of a Canon Canonet in very good condition, all working even the meter cell around the lens is fully working. However, the shutter blades are slow to open and close on all settings.I guess old thick lube is the problem. If anyone has had the same problem I would like to fix the shutter just need some hands on knowledge.

Different Canonets, different shutters, different solutions.
The forum's archives via "search" are full of useful hints & tips, like here https://kyp.hauslendale.com/classics/forum/messages/2/14219.html

Update on slow shutter.Access made through film chamber, removed rear element.Taking great care as aperture blades first obstacle, open up in normal way.The shutter blades are now in plain view.I used methylated spirit one very small drop at a time, just a smear.Operated the shutter as many times as needed. The shutter became intermittent so repeated the process again.Actually did this about four times until I got reliable shutter times.Just a note if any liquid gets onto the aperture blades these may lock up,that is until any excess liquid has evaporated, keep working things.Inevitably some liquid will make its way onto the lens elemant below, just open up on B-setting and use cotton bud to clear.
Just for the record the camera is the original Canonet, first model.

Update on update.I don't think that i made myself quite clear.I put a drop of methylated spirit directly on to the shutter blades and worked the shutter.

That is good news, Karl.
I hope that the sticky shutter syndrome won't return which will be the case sooner or later if the blades are not really clean; wet grime usually creeps.
At present I am waiting for a 1.7/45 QL junker (first old model) to arrive and provide me with spare parts for my still unfinished Canonet S, as I prefer the CdS meter models.

Thank you, one and all. At least I now know how to tackle the problem, and I'll attempt to remedy the faults when I can find a spare moment. Again, many thanks.
