I purchased an old Rolleiflex 3,5 (# 1030169) at an estate sale for $22!

The camera works but there is a slight light seal leak near the top of the seal. I know because I just developed a roll of film taken by this camera. The camera is in good condition outside of this problem.

Is there a way to fix this without purchasing a new back plate?

Ok, an Automat from 1947 or 8. Well, in those days they used felt or a sort of corded material like a woven shoelace. So, find out where the light leak is and plug it or replace it all. Whatever looks best. Tack down the material with contact cement.

I believe it is an Automat type 2 (from 1939-45).

That model was made from 1939 to 1949 according to the collector book. This one had a bayonet mount added to the top lens which dfferentiated it from the first style.
