I have a Cononet 28 that seems to have a problem with the film advance. Everything seems to be in order, except that the take-up spool spins too freely. This results in the film not advancing properly as there is not enough tension to pull the film through. I know the spool should spin in both directions with some resistance, but it almost spins with no resistance at all. I have removed the bottom and can't see any mechanism that would have any affect on the spool. Before I take the top off, I thought I would pick the collective brain of the forum for advice. Any ideas? |

The 28 is similar in many ways to the QL17GIII. There is a repair manual for that in the list under the repair manual button at the top of this page that may give you some hint. |

Thanks Charlie. I have looked at the manual, but it really doesn't show much with respect to the spool. I have looked at the camera more closely, and it appears that the spool needs to be seated close to the bottom of the camera in order to engage a sprocket or something to allow it to pull the film. My camera seems to float upwards too easily. Can anyone out there look at their Canonet and see what mechanism (spring or washer perhaps)holds the take-up spool against the bottom "sprocket"? |
