I just bought an original Canon F-1, second version if it makes a difference, and I'm wondering before I tear into this thing what might cause the battery check selector not to work.

Incidentally, the 2nd version of the original F-1's battery check switch is spring-loaded in the "off" position to prevent inadvertent battery drain. Dunno if this might make a difference. Mechanically, at least, there's a spring there that the 1st version didn't have.

The meter works fine, but when I turn the switch to the "Check" position, the needle drops to zero, and does not respond at all, including when set to the "Check" shutter speed and ISO: 1/2000 @ ISO 100.

Any recommendations?
