Hello all,

I picked up a Hi-Matic 9 for a couple dollars the other day. It functions properly, but the rangefinder glass is broken in the top corner. I've never taken a camera apart before, but I figured this would be a good practice project. So far, I've taken off the two screws on the top cover, and from there, well, I'm kind of lost. Does anyone know what is holding it on?

See if this helps. The rewind knob and film advance levers will need to come off. Careful with shims and springs that may be under them.

I just now was fiddling around with my new Hi-Matic 7s and (I'm pretty sure it's similar) it has just 2 small screws on the top, advance-lever side and back middle.
The rewind crank side has no screw but rather, under the rewind crank knob there is another ring to remove using same method as removing the top screw on the advance lever. (I have some sweet pointed tweezers that say "Revlon" I stole from my wife. they're pointed, adjustable, strong) after removing this ring, the rewind shaft will fall out into the film chamber, don't loose the wavy spring washer at the inside-top of this shaft. take the top off straight up but first lay camera flat on back or the shutter release button will fall out but is easy to put back in.
Other than the extra ring under the rewind crank, it is pretty much like most tutorials here and online for rangefinder camera top removal.
