Hi!
Usually I use shellac to glue leatherette to metal, but this time I found an old glue in a camera that looks like shellac when old and dried, but does not dilute into anything that shellac would. Does anyone know what more modern glues were already in use in 1920's and 1930's?

Good old hoof and hide glue straight out of the knacker's yard. If it softens and eventually dissolves in boiling water, then this is what you have, a much cheaper alternative to shellac.

Thanks Glenn!
It dissolved in boiling water while many other chemicals did nothing to it, so it must be like you said. Thanks again for help!
