I finally got around to starting a restoration of my Ikonta when I had to open up the shutter (a Klio) to takes some photos while helping out a fellow rangefinderforum member. Figured I might as well keep going, now that I had it opened up.
Things are going fairly well. I haven't cleaned up the shutter drive trains yet as that is not the pressing issue (was working okay before). I did however manage to free up the shutter release mechanismn by doing a little reshaping of the plunger and plate, then getting a small amount of silicon on the spring loaded transfer bar that was rusted up. And the fungus is now off the rear lens element (the others were only hazed). I still have to get a small rivet in order to repair the erecting strut on one side.
My biggest challenge will be to get a replacement for the lever that actually trips the shutter. It normally resides in the front door of the camera, reaching from the back of the bellows to the front of the lens/shutter mount, and is actuated by the transfer bar (I don't have a teardown of this camera to go by, so I'm just using common names for the parts). I think the former owner removed it so he could trip the shutter with his finger since the transfer bar was jamming up the shutter release. I know I could just do the same, but I would like to get it back to a decent 'original' condition.
Would anyone have this lever laying around in their junk piles? Let me know.
