Hello esteemed vintage camera enthusiasts and restorers,
As I am new to this, I would like to seek some advice.
I understand that leather thicknesses are best kept within 0.5mm so that the edges wouldn't snag and cause the whole piece to peel prematurely.
I've been looking around for some nice maroon/burgundy leathers of 0.5mm thickness as I fancy a dark-red + black theme on my Leica R4.
The only leather type I could find on ebay within reasonable budget and of required thickness and color is made of lambskin.
May I have your experienced opinions on whether or not lambskin is indeed a viable option?

The following picture is of the cut of leather that I could purchase (28" at widest point, might be too much?).
I look forward to reading your thoughts on this and suggestions on other leather treatment/options too.

Personally, I'd say not. Lamb and sheep leather is soft and snags very easily. It is like a sponge and has no durability. What you want is goat or kangaroo leather. Goat leather is very tough -- they make motorcycle seats out of it. It is also a good deal easier to find pieces that are thin enough. Kangaroo leather is even tougher.
