I picked this camera up other day. IT,s stamped in white ink on bottom of camera Germany USSR Occupied. Names been ground off so it took some searching to figure out what make it was. it,s dead on match according to pentacon 35mm manual except theirs no ZI in bottom part of log on pentaprism in front. it was,nt touched by grinder. it does have far better lens on camera it came with cooke amotal anastigmat 2 inch F2 ELC lens.any ideas why this camera does,nt have ZI in log. Thanks James

I have one like this too. Due to trademark disputes cameras marked Zeiss Ikon imported into the States from Eastern Germany had the offending words obliterated. Typically, there would have been another nameplate glued, screwed or rivetted over the top. 'Hexacon' would have been a common name...
Others were simply engraved differently during manufacturing, 'ConSol' would be an example of this.
Regards, Chris

well i visited camerapedia.com their i found my answers. ZI stood for zeiss ikon which they did or did,nt put below their building logo. it,s contax D renamed pentacon for export to other country,s. for 10.00 i don,t think i got hurt any. shutter speed knobs bent a little . all speeds seem to work properly. can,t see any holes in shutter curtains. veiwing mirror inside pentaprism is badly stained. i,m sure it,ll need replaced. shoot roll of film thru camera and see what happens.
