I recently got hold of a 1950's Voigtlander Bessa II with color-heliar.
A wonderfull machine :-)
Although the lens isn't perfectly parallel to the film, there is some movement on one of the lens holdingarms :-( , it makes good pictures.
I'm convinced this repair is something that is beyond my possibilities.
I tried to get the top of in order to clean the rangefinder which is very dirty.
Everything went smooth until I reached a brass screw under the rewindknob. This will not loosen, I didn't force anything also because I don't know if it's left or righthanded thread. So I put everything back in order, and I'm desperatly looking for help because it is such a nice camera

Can someone recommend a specialist near Belgium who can give it a CLA please?
It needs several interventions to be done, I guess.
-rangefinder needs cleaning and adjusting
-lens-film parallel needs to be restored if possible
-shutter needs a check, although speeds sound good, and the pictures are ok, and 1s seems to be about 1s.
Could you help me please?
The prints I get out of it are impressive(for me that is :-) ), but I'm convinced the camera can perform even beter after a CLA.
I only paid 50 euros for this marvel, but it is certainly worth giving it a CLA, any guess what it might cost me?

Thanks for helping me, Thierry

Thierry

I can't help specifically with the Bessa II, but I can recommend a camera repairer in UK who is happy to do work by post.

They have given two Praktica MTL3s wonderful CLAs for me.

They are "Newton Ellis" of Liverpool. They are a long established company that may well know your camera. They have a website and would at least answer an enquiry. Hope this helps

Thierry - it may be worth your while asking on a European forum like www.galerie-photo.com. There are repair specialists in Paris who can help you out too. A postal repair can be daunting however your instructions are clear and on a camera like this, it' worth getting done properly.

Slightly closer than Newton Ellis, but still a country away:
http://www.camcentre.co.uk/stock.htm

Their technician is very fluent with the 20th century cameras, however you would still need to send it in for an initial quote (it is always harder then to refuse a repair, considering all of the postal expense and effort).

Best wishes and good luck.

Hello guys,

Thanks a lot for the information.
I will keep those two companies in mind.
But as RJ wrote it perhaps is better to ask it first on a European forum.

Thank you very much :-)

I would send it to Jurgen. He really does a fine job on old folders. The shipping expense and extra time won't be that much of a difference.
