Hi, I have an old Yashica Electro 35 GSN that I bought on a fleamarket. The battery test works and the exposure arrows too, but the self timer is stuck at the end of its course. I took pictures with it and I can see two problems: (i)the pictures taken with slow speeds are under-exposed and (ii) when the light is enough or when I used a flash, in most pictures, the image is blurred. The blurred images look like a superimposition of two or several images of the same subject, as if the camera had shaken. The problem is that I am used to taking pictures, even with slow speeds and I don't think that my hands have shaken. I don't think that the subject has shaken either because even static objects (and not only people) are blurred on the image. So I am wondering what has happened. Is it possible that something has shaken inside the camera? I also thought that maybe the problem was due to development, but I can't tell from the negatives. For the separate problem of underexposure on slow speeds, is there anything to do or is it due to the electronics and therefore, hopeless if you are not a specialist? Could the self timer have anything to do with my problems? Thank you for your suggestions on what I could do. I did some research on this forum but could not find an explanation (on the other hand, Yashica Electro questions are so numerous that I may have missed something). E.V. |

Hi, I experienced something very similar on a half-frame Canon Demi. I sorted out the meter (usual problem - battery lead corroded through) and then put a roll of film through, only to find something similar to what you describe. It didn't look like camera shake, but more like two distinct images slightly out of register, sometimes more obvious than others. I've not investigated, but wonder if there's a displaced lens element. It's a pity because for a rudimentary exposure system it was remarkably good. Good luck! Steve |

Steve, Thanks for your idea. I hadn't thought of this possibility. I started taking apart the lens on my Yashica and will keep you updated if I manange to put everything back together and there is any change. My timer, which is mounted on the lens barrel, is stuck and I wonder if this is interfering with the lens. Esfandiar |

Did you use the correct replacement of the batteries? It may cause improper exposure! |

Thanks Marvin, I think the battery corresponds to what is usually recommended, but the camera would make a sizzling sound when the shutter button is slightly depressed, so I guess that could be another reason for my poor results. I will try with a new battery. Esfandiar |

I have a Yashica Electro 35 GSN. The arrow marking in the meter is flickering and I can even hear the sound. What is the solution for this?. My flash is not working when mounted on the top in this camara but works in other cameras. I need some suggesion. |
