I have had a Canon EOS 1000 for 8 years. It has been A1 up to now, but now, without warning, the shutter release button has ceased to function, it does not appear to be "cocked". I have replaced the battery but this has not fixed the problem.There is a half exposed film inside which I cannot remove safely.Can anyone suggest a course of action? If I need to remove any cover plate, will the half exposed film be ruined?
Any advice appreciated

I would suggest a film changing bag or a very dark closet at night to get the film out of the camera. Beyond that, I can't help. |

I had to get a jammed roll out of a Mamiya 1000 DTL once. I used a dark windowless bathroom in my pitch dark master bedroom at night to make double sure no light even reached the bathroom. It worked fine. |

But did you figure out how to get the shutter release button unstuck? I have a Canon AE-1 camera with this problem, too. Don't want to discard it. |

Carol,
Clarify 'stuck'. Are you saying that the release button will not move? If so is it stuck in the up or down position? I suppose you have checked that the release lock is not engaged. One last thing, can you operate the camera normally with a cable release?
I need the above information to pin point what is wrong with the AE-1.
