Some while ago now, in an attempt to discover why the focus-assist LEDs wouldn't do anything, I took the base-plate off... Now, I can't remember how the little bits that make the battery-box cover fit and swing out when slid should go. I thought I'd tried every possible orientation, but no joy: there's the black plastic cover itself and a little piece of chromed spring for the hinge - any help?

... I seem to have solved this problem, at last. However, the reason I took the base-plate off in the first place remains: the camera is locked/jammed, i.e. mirror up, wind on won't, shutter (?) uncocked. Any advice?
