Hi all,

I have a Canon TX in which the viewfinder glass has come loose from the body. I have tried to remove the top so I can get to it to repair it, but for the life of me I cannot remove the film advance lever. I used a home made spanner to remove the large screw holding the lever down, but it will not come off. There seems to be another washer or something holding it on and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get that lever off without hurting the camera.

ANy suggestions will be very much appreciated!

Hi Marshall,

Did you remove the nut on top of the lever? It doesn't really look like a nut - more like a large washer with spanner holes, but it indeed is threaded onto the shaft. There is a tiny set screw on it that needs to be loosened first. The nut is LH thread I believe.

Hi Will. I didn't see a setscrew, but I'll look again. So it loosens to the "right" right?

Hi Marshall,

Hmm.. maybe TX doesn't have one. The set screw is very small slotted type. Double check, because if this screw is not loosened, the threads on the wind shaft will be ruined as you spin off the nut. If it is LH - yes right will loosen. I'm basing my assumption on Rick Oleson's CD notes - a FTb is LH. So I assume a TX is same too. Maybe someone else on the forum could confirm this.
