If the metering system on a MH 9 is not working, and the battery wire looks OK, where else might the problem be? Does the meter cell itself often fail?
Also, if the whole front lens assembly wobbles, is there any easy way to tighten it? |

There are quite a number of other sources of failures. First, make sure the film sensitivity selector in not in off-position, because this means the meter cell is completely shaded from light.
Although the meter itself is quite sturdy it may have seen bad times, you never know; inspecting it is quite simple after removal of the top cap.
Because mercury batteries often leaked when left inside the battery chamber, the (black) wire (negative) was eaten up by the chemicals ("black wire corrosion"), so you will have to check that one at least, a general conductivity test is useful, never trust "clean" contacts!
Inside the lens barrel there is a switch and some wires as shown here: http://homepage1.nifty.com/fukucame/daisaku/d59.htm . They can easily be checked, in the pictures you can see why, only basic tinkering skills are necessary.
If the complete (!) lens barrel wobbles, its retaining ring needs retightening, but unfortunately this requires disassembly of the camera. It is not accessible from the film chamber, it is not even visible from there. The archives may be helpful here ("Keyword Search"),
