I recently rewound and removed a film from my XD7, then attempted to load up a new one. The tab didn't seem to catch properly so I took the film out, at which point half of the grey plastic take-up spool dropped out of the camera. By rotating the shaft I managed to get the other half out and can see that the plastic has broken into two almost equal pieces. I could glue the (thin) edges back together but suspect it would have little strength. Also I'd have to do it in the camera, or get involved in some serious dismantling.
I suppose it really needs a replacement part - is such a thing available and how difficult would it be for an amateur like me to fit ?
Alternatively, is there a workaround to hold the film so it can be wound on ?

This is a fairly common problem on XD's. I know of no good workaround. Best thing to do is find a junker to get another spool from.
