Hi All.
I need some Technical camera manuals, not basic but advanced. My interest is in RFs & SLRs between 1950 & 1980 MF Cameras. Any books you like, & find indespensable price is not an issue.

Hello everyone.
As I dig deeper into just how many manuals on Cameras there are out there. I began to realize what I had asked of you was near to impossable to answer.
As an example:
If you wanted to work on your own Porsche & you asked me to suggest an advanced Shop manual. I am semiretired now, however without knowing how many decades you spent as a schooled Master Porsche/Mercedes Mechanic. I surely would not suggest you spend the money I spent on the Factory Shop Manuals I used, & still use.
When it comes to cameras my real interest is in Amateur photography. If I can replace the light seals or clean & relube a lens I can save some money for more & better film etc. So far I have given a Fujica & 2 Prakticas I bought for less than 10 dollars ea, & needed some minor work to 3 young happy new photographers.

There are a variety of people selling reprints of manuals. You can find them by searching on-line or searching on eBay. Usually the manual reprint will cost more than the old camera.  There are also some free repair manuals out there as well.
The thing is, camera repair manuals vary widely in how much information they give you. Many are not much more than parts diagrams intended for factory-trained repair specialists. Some are very in-depth and provide complete information on diagnostics and adjustments. Manuals for later cameras usually have more information. e.g. the FE-2 manual from Nikon is very good.
Sadly, most of the information on camera repair seems to be transmitted as a kind of oral tradition. Fortunately we have websites like this one to help carry on that tradition. |

Which cameras are you specifically interested in? If you Google the make n model you want, more than likely you will come accross the proper reapir manuals or technical info on the shutter. |

I admit it, I'm a repair manual nut. Mind you I rarely ever use one when I tinker. I just like having them. Tried getting professional help but they just talked me out of a Pentax ME Super w/ kit.
Before you shell out hard earned bucks, contact me. I'd tell you everything I got but I get embarrssed talking about my adiction in public.

Btw, have you read my camera book reviews? They'll lead you into your first purchase. General purpose purchase anyway. For specific cameras it is a more interesting search. |

This site has tons of information you can download, check out the manuals section.
This forum is basically for camera junkies, we are all addicted in one form or another, so you seem more normal than most of us. I have a clsoet full of cameras n parts, I just can't help wanting more of em. |

Although I don't have an extensive collection owing to cheapness, and not much at all in the camera department, I am addicted to repair manuals and instruction manuals of all sorts. I have manuals and instructions for vehicles, machines, tools and instruments that I have never owned and never will. Others for things I've long since gotten rid of. I always buy the factory shop manual for whatever car I own, if it's available. A couple of times I've given away the shop manuals for vehicles when I sold them, and have always regretted it later, so now I keep them all. Oddly enough every once in a while I find that I am nearly the only person on earth with the instructions for some obscure thing. |

Thank you all for your great suggestions, I feel welcome here & I look fowared to learning from you all.
Finding this forum was just what I needed. Who knows Paul, I too may just become a Camera Junkie it seems to grow on you & it's a healthy addiction LOL.
