I have 3 Minolta XE-7's, but one has a problem with the film advance lever. When you wind it completely to the right, it often sticks at the end of the advance motion and is unable to fire. If you work it back and forth, everything cocks and the camera fires. Any easy fixes with this? Should I open up the dang thing? |

My XE-7 used to do this as well. It's been a few years since I fixed it, so the memory is hazy, but I do recall some of the details. You'll need to open it up, and take off the top right cover. Take a close look at the mech underneath the circuit board, close to the frame counter and the film loaded/advancing indicator. As you wind, watch for a toothed gear rotating underneath a ratchet pawl, concentric with the takeup spool shaft. When the winding gets stuck at the end, the ratchet will be almost but not quite off of the last tooth on the gear. The fix is to reposition the gear on the shaft, so that the ratchet clears the last tooth when the advance stroke is finished. IIRC, you'll need to unsolder a couple of the wires to the circuit board so you can rotate it up and out of the way, but you can leave most of the wires connected at the pentaprism end. Good luck! thanks for the information. because this camera is otherwise in great condition, I think I'll try to find another xe body that is in bad shape so I can take it apart and mess around with it. |
