I`ve inherited an AE1, when I advance the film the shutter activates, I`ve cleaned the 2 magnetic connection points under the bottom plate and cleaned the actuator arms that move them but still no change, I`m new at this so what else can I try?

Not much, Horace ..

The shutter latching is probably OK but I'd be 95% sure that it isn't reaching the latch-point because the main mirror-box spring-latch is gunked. In itself that is easy to fix - but accessing such on an AE1 (ie: pulling the mirrorbox) is a nightmare even for a a very experienced techie. Certainly the costs in labour would exceed the worth of the camera.

You might want to simply showcase it because of sentimental value. On the other hand - keep a close eye on your posting here - someone might have something helpful to offer.
