Hi All,
I bought a Nikon N90s recently from ebay and when it arrived, the mirror was hung in the middle (not totally up or down) hence the camera was not useable. I took the N90 to Tempe Camera just for repair estimate and when I went back they already fixed the camera with no charge (I was very surprised, didn't believe they are so honest and nice). I didn't have change to talk to technician but I am very curious now. Apparently this must be an easy fix but how? Also, why did it happen? Did it happen during shipping? Is this a common problem in N90? How do I fix it if happens again? Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Robert

Some cameras will hang like this if the battery voltage goes too low... perhaps they just put in a fresh battery. Also, some models have a 'mechanical reset' if you set to a certain setting it 'clicks' and releases the mirror. Either could be the case here... its unusual to get a 'free' repair, I'd suggest you buy some film there or something, and good honest shop deserves a little help staying in business, if for nothing else just to keep them around for next time.

Thanks for the advice, Jim. I will bring all my film processing to them and hopefully their business can last for a while. Sadly, film photography seems on its way to extinction.
May be this problem is listed in Nikon's service manual. I wish I know a way to reset the mirror if it happens again. Shouldn't it be "Ctrl-Alt-Del"? ;-)
