Hi,
I have a Pentax Spotmatic II with a light meter off by 2 stops. I assume there is a vari resistor somewhere which I can adjust. Wondering if anyone can share experience as to where the resistor is, under top cover? by the switch? I am a novice so don't wish to dig into camera deeper than I have to. Thank you.

Unfortunately the meter adjustment is under the top cover, on either side of the eyepiece. Taking a Spotmatic apart isn't difficult but it does need a few tools and some knowledge of the camera. Are you using a 1.5 volt battery or 1.35 volt? The 1.35 is the correct one, 1.5 will give you an inaccurate meter reading.

Thank you PL,
I think the battery is 1.35 but it's probably a good idea to test meter again with a flash one. I did have one of those spanner wrenches and took the top off a Pentax MX a few years ago (when I was young and brave and the MX was already completely broken). The Sp II, on the other hand, is in very nice shape except the meter. Decision and decision....

The adjustment pot is on the rewind side. You need to remove the rewind knob, the flash selector switch, and the film reminder dial.(Use a bent paper clip to fit the pin hole faced nut). This will uncover a round hole, through which the pot can be seen. You can use any cell which fits the holder....Pentax Spotmatics use a bridge type metering circuit, which is unaffected by voltage. I use a watch type silver cell in mine with no problems.

Wow, thank you John, this is the info I badly needed. So I don't have to take the top off, just the rewind knob portion. Will try after the superbowl....
