whats the best way to clean up the gooey residue from the camera , any tips on how to put the new light seal on |

The best way to clean up the camera is to use naphtha or denatured alcohol. Naphtha is the same thing as cigarette lighter fluid (such as Ronsonol). As for the seal material, I can send you a kit for as little as $6, and I can also send you special instructions for the Canonet GIII (as well as other Canonet second series models). The instructions explain all aspects of re-sealing the camera, and the new 1.5mm open-celled foam is excellent in this camera...the best I have ever seen. Go to the arts and crafts section of Walmart, buy a sheet of black foamie (Get the one with adhesive on one side. It costs between $.50 and $1.00. Plain foamies cost about $.33, but you have to provide your own adhesive). Then take a straight edge and exacto knife or razor blade and cut a strip of foamie to the right length and width, remove the adhesive backing, and with the help of narrow screw driver blade or straight edge put the foamie strip in the light seal groove. Cut other pieces to fit proper places on the film door and put in place and you are done. |

After resealing a few cameras 2 years ago using inexpensive 'Foamies' I finally came upon the higher quality and proper seals. Yes, there's a huge difference in quality and really, the price is still relatively inexpensive for the best seal materials. |
