Hi,

I bought a Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII from ebay. Everything is fine apart from that dust is starting to appear inside the lens. Is it possible to clean and reseal the lens? I guess that if the answer is yes, such a job could only be done by a professional - any recommendations for a suitable repair shop? I am based in London.

Thanks

Max

It depends where the dust is located. The lenses of the Hi-Matic7SII (and its clones, the Revue400SE and Konica Auto-S3) are not difficult to open. If you think the dust is in the front part of the lens (visible with shutter closed from the front) remove the retainer ring and the name plate ring. The front lens element is held by a thin retainer ring. The entire front lens cell is not difficult to remove.

To reassemble go the other way round. No adjustments needed. To avoid (new) dust inside the lens, clean the surfaces with a very soft brush (free from grease - don't touch the brush with your fingers) and blow away any dust particles just the moment when you put the lens element back into place.

Thanks a lot for the info, Winfried. That should solve my problem.
